DAVIDSON, N.C. — In a stretch of playing nine of 10 games at home, Davidson continues on with a non-conference women's lacrosse contest against the Oregon Ducks Tuesday evening at Richardson Stadium. The stretch of home games started Feb. 25 and runs until April 1, with its lone road game having been at Robert Morris, March 17.
The Opening Draw Control
Davidson (4-5, 1-0 NLC) fresh off a season-best 21 goals and its first National Lacrosse Conference win of the season, plays its final non-conference opponent when Oregon (5-4, 2-0 MPSF) visits Richardson Stadium on Tuesday evening, March 27, at 6 p.m.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
The two schools have faced each other three times since the series opener in 2005, with the Ducks holding a 3-0 advantage. The Wildcats last faced Oregon in 2007 at home, falling 14-1.
Last Time Out...
... Davidson — The Wildcats broke out of its two-game losing skid in a big way, scoring a season-best 21 goals with Ann Fucigna tallying five goals and five assists in leading the 'Cats to a 21-15 NLC win over Presbyterian on Saturday afternoon. Fucigna's 10 points were one off the single-game school record as she set personal bests in assists and points.
The Wildcats jumped out the gate fast, scoring three goals in less than 1:30 to open the contest. Then after a quick PC goal by Ellis, Davidson struck again with another three straight goals in just over a minute of action for a 6-1 lead with 26:22 on the clock.
PC came all the way back throughout the first and second half, cutting it to 13-12 with 23 minutes left in the contest. Davidson finally put the game away when it rattled off seven unanswered goals from the 19:58 mark until the 12:15 mark to grab a 19-12 lead. Fucigna scored three times in the rally and picked up an assisted on Jenna Mugele's second goal during the run.
... Oregon — After fighting to tie the match up with less than five minutes left in regulation, Oregon came up short against High Point, falling 13-10, in Sunday afternoon action.
Freshman Devon Frazer tallied the next Duck goal, the first of her UO career, with less than nine minutes left in the first stanza creating only a 6-3 deficit. UO was not able to get another two loos at the goal and ended the half down 6-5.
Sophomore Nikki Puszcz to record back-to-back goals and create some separation between UO and HPU, 9-7 in the second half. High Point tied it back up on back-to-back scores from MacKenzie Carroll later.
UO got what would be their last goal of the match at the 4:35 hash after Jana Drummond tied the match up at 10-10. From there, the Panthers went on the attack and scored three straight goals to win the match, 13-10.
