DAVIDSON, N.C. — Coming off a thrilling double-overtime win to capture the 2012 Southern Conference Tournament title, Davidson was tabbed the West Region's 13th seed and will take on the fourth-seeded Louisville Cardinals (26-9) in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament on Thursday, March 15, at the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore. Game times will be announced Monday.
Davidson (25-7) and Louisville have faced each other one time, dating back to Dec. 12, 1959 with the Cardinals earning a 90-47 win. Louisville claimed its second Big East Tournament title this year with a win over Cincinnati.
The winner of Davidson's first-round matchup will advance to face the victor of the game between fifth-seeded New Mexico (27-6) and 12th-seeded Long Beach State (25-8) on Saturday.
Making their 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and fifth since 2002, the Wildcats enter the tournament riding a five-game win streak. It's the first appearance for the 'Cats since they made their magical run to the Elite Eight during the 2007-08 season, winning games against Gonzaga, Georgetown and Wisconsin.
Davidson is 8-11 all-time in the NCAA Tournament with its last appearance an 59-57 setback to No. 4 Kansas in the 2008 Elite Eight in Ford Field in Detroit, Mich.
