Men’s Basketball Heads to New Mexico for ESPN’s College Hoops Marathon

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Coming off a 93-67 win in its season opener, Davidson begins a stretch of six straight away from home with an 11:59 p.m. (local) tip at New Mexico Monday, as part of ESPN's 24 hours of College Hoops Marathon.

• Davidson begins a stretch of six straight away from home with an 11:59 p.m. (local) tip at New Mexico, as part of ESPN's 24 hours of College Hoops Marathon.
• With its win over Emory on Friday evening, Davidson has won 21 consecutive home openers.
• Since 2006-07, the Wildcats are 51-29 (.637) in road contests.
• Davidson is 19-4 in its last 23 contests, dating back to the last game of the 2011 calendar year.
• The Wildcats were tabbed Southern Conference preseason favorites in both the media and coaches poll.
• Junior De'Mon Brooks was voted Preseason Player of the Year by the league's 12 head coaches, while Jake Cohen and Nik Cochran were selected preseason all-conference.
• Davidson returns all five starters and its top eight scorers and rebounders from the 2011-12 team. Ninety-eight percent of the 'Cats' scoring and 94 percent of their rebounding is back in uniform this season.
• The Wildcats are led by two SoCon Players of the Year. Brooks earned the honor from the SoCon coaches, and Cohen got the award from the media association. While the media association (began voting in 1951-52) and the coaches (began voting in 1989-90) have differed on their selections over the years, it's the first time two players from the same team have split the honor.
• Brooks was also named the SoCon Tourney MVP, while Cohen earned all-tournament honors.
• Bob McKillop was named SoCon Coach of the Year in the coaches' poll. It's his eighth SoCon Coach of the Year distinction. One of the nation's longest-tenured active coaches, McKillop will be coaching in his 699th collegiate contest this evening.
• McKillop has led Davidson to 25 wins or more in four of the last six seasons.
• With last season's NCAA?Tournament appearance, every four-year player in the Davidson program since 1994 will have played in the “Big Dance.”

• New Mexico won the only meeting with Davidson, 92-77, on Dec. 29, 1978 at The Pit in the Lobo Invitational.
• Bob McKillop was an assistant coach on Eddie Biedenbach's staff when Davidson made its first trip to The Pit.
• Davidson is 1-3 all-time at The Pit.
• The Wildcats went 1-1 in the 2000 Lobo Invitational (Drexel L, 73-84 / William & Mary W, 75-70) before falling to Ohio State, 69-64, in the 2002 NCAA Tournament.
Last Time Out
• De'Mon Brooks led four Davidson players in double figures with 24 points as the Wildcats defeated Emory, 93-67, in their 2012-13 season opener Friday evening at John M. Belk Arena.
• In addition to Brooks finishing 8-of-12 from the floor and making all six of his attempts at the line, frontcourt mate Jake Cohen recorded 13 points, eight rebounds and six blocks.
• Chris Czerapowicz added 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting with three 3-pointers for the Wildcats, while JP Kuhlman scored 12 of his 14 points after intermission.
• Davidson (1-0) shot 56.7 percent in the second half, including 6-of-8 from long range to finish the game at 48.5 percent (32-66) overall and 45.5 percent (10-22) from behind the arc. The Wildcats also drilled 19 of their 24 tries at the charity stripe for a 79.2 percent clip.
• After Emory went on a 17-6 run to cut a 12-point deficit to one, 31-30, with 6:15 to go in the first half, Davidson closed on an 11-4 spurt capped off by a Clint Mann jumper to take a 42-34 lead into the break.
• The Wildcats got eight straight points from Brooks early in the second half to push the margin back to double digits where it would stay the remainder of the contest.
• Nik Cochran led both teams with seven assists as the Wildcats tallied 21 on 32 field goals, while committing just eight turnovers.
Preseason Lou Henson All-America Team
• Junior De'Mon Brooks was recently named to the 2012-13 Preseason Mid-Major All-America Team.
• A year ago, the SoCon Player of the Year was voted to the AP Honorable Mention All-America Team.
Claw Marks
• The 'Cats have posted 20 wins under head coach Bob McKillop 10 times, including six of the last eight seasons. Davidson has won 20 games in a season 19 times.
• Davidson won its eighth SoCon division title in the last 11 seasons and the 11th title under head coach Bob McKillop last year.
• By defeating Kansas 80-74 Dec. 19, 2011, the Wildcats defeated a ranked opponent for the first time since topping Wisconsin 73-56 in the 2008 NCAA Tournament.
• It was Davidson's first win over a ranked opponent in the regular season since defeating No. 15 South Carolina Jan. 16, 1974.
• It was the 'Cats' first win over a ranked opponent on the road since defeating No. 17 St. John's 88-84 Jan. 4, 1972.
• Davidson finished the 2011-12 regular season campaign with a 9-6 record in non-conference games.
