Four 'Cats Capture Singles Titles in Final Day of Jim Causey Invitational

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Four Wildcats concluded the last day of the Jim Causey Invitational in impressive fashion, capturing singles titles in Flights 4-6 and 8 as Davidson wrapped up its own invitational with a solid showing during homecoming weekend at the Convington Tennis Courts.
Taking home singles titles were Robert Lightbourn (No. 4), Connor Evins (No. 5), Alex Howard (No. 6) and Kevin Moore (No. 8), while Moore and Chris Mark tied for the doubles title at No. 2 and Lightbourn and Howard earned the No. 4 doubles title.
After a strong first day, Lightbourn closed out the two-day invitational with two wins over Charlotte (7-5, 2-6, 10-3) and Appalachian State (6-2, 6-1) to give him a 3-0 record on the weekend in singles.
Evins also picked up a pair of victories on Saturday, coming back against his Charlotte opponent to win 2-6, 7-6, 10-5 in his first match, and then closing out the day with a straight-set 6-3, 6-0 triumph.
Howard had a very strong opening Fall season as the first-year player went 3-0 at the No. 6 flight singles. After cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win on Friday, Howard rattled off 7-6, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-1 wins over players from Charlotte and ASU.
The freshman teamed with Lightbourn to win the No. 4 doubles flight with two wins. He also teamed with Roger Irigoyen Berlanga on Friday for a solid win over ASU, 8-7.
Finishing 2-0 at No. 8 singles was Moore. He netted two straight-set wins, allowing just six games total in 6-0, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-3 victories against the 49ers and the Mountaineers.
The senior teamed up with fellow classmate Mark to tie for the No. 2 doubles flight title. The duo dropped a 9-8 decision to Charlotte, but regrouped to take home two 8-6 wins against Campbell and App. State.
Ethan Kallick and Nicky Kunz represented Davidson in the No. 2 and No. 7 flight singles. Kallick had 6-4, 7-6 and 6-2, 6-3 wins, but fell to eventual champion Kralik of Campbell in a super tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-2, 10-6.
Kunz also earned two wins, including a super tiebreaker comeback over Charlotte, 4-6, 6-0, 12-10.
Senior Joe Schafer scored a 6-4, 6-4 triumph in the No. 1 flight singles, while he and Kunz teamed up at No. 1 doubles for a one win, an 8-4 decision vs. ASU.

Davidson next heads to Winston-Salem, N.C., to participate in the Wake Forest Invitational, Oct. 12-14.
