JP Kuhlman Named Candidate for Men’s Basketball 2012-13 Senior CLASS Award®

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Davidson's JP Kuhlman is one of 30 men's basketball student-athletes selected as a candidate for the 2012-13 Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.
JP Kuhlman's Profile
Classroom
JP Kuhlman, a religion major and pre-med student, was a 2012 third-team Capital One Academic All-America selection. A member of the Davidson Health Pre-professional Honor Society, Kuhlman is also a member of the SoCon All-Academic team and NABC Honors Court.
Character
Kuhlman has demonstrated tremendous leadership, teamwork, integrity and work ethic on and off the court at Davidson by managing the responsibilities of being a two-time varsity team captain, while maintaining strong grades and working in the community. Kuhlman has abided by the Davidson College Honor Code, a central part of campus life at Davidson, which requires students maintain the highest level of integrity and entrusts them to take un-proctored exams. A student leader of the Davidson Catholic Campus Ministry, Kuhlman is one of seven children, which helped him learn the values or working together.
Community
Kuhlman has been active in the community while at Davidson through the following organizations and efforts – Teen Mentoring Program, Buzzkill, Camp Promise, Access to Success and National Walk to School Day.
Competition
One of four team captains • Enters the season tied for 27th at Davidson in career scoring (1,173) and 15th in career assists (300) • Joins Stephen Curry as the only two players in school history to tally over 1,000 career points, 400 rebounds and 300 assists • His career 3-point percentage (.370) currently ranks 9th in the Wildcat record book • 2012 SoCon All-Tournament • 2012 third-team Capital One Academic All-America • 2012 NABC Academic Honors Court • 2010 SoCon Freshman of the Year • 2010 Mid-Major Freshman All-America • SoCon All-Academic Selection
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 2012-13 candidate classes include seven men's players and seven women's players who were recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America as 2012 Capital One Academic All-Americans. Five men and 10 women were Associated Press All-Americans. Twenty men's candidates and 18 women's candidates have cumulative grade point averages above 3.0. The men's Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2013 NCAA Final Four® in Atlanta April 6 and 8, while the women's winner will be announced during the NCAA Women's Final Four® in New Orleans April 7 and 9.
The candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 men's and 10 women's finalists midway through the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one men's finalist and one women's finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. ?
