Davidson Welcomes Belmont Abbey to Belk Arena for Exhibition Contest Thursday

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson will host Belmont Abbey in an exhibition contest Thursday evening at 7 p.m. inside the friendly confines of John M. Belk Arena.
Coming off its 11th NCAA Tournament appearance in school history and sixth under head coach Bob McKillop, Davidson was tabbed the Southern Conference preseason favorite in both the media and coaches poll last week.
The Wildcats finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 25-8 overall record and 16-2 mark in conference play before capturing the SoCon crown with a 93-91 double-overtime win over Western Carolina. Davidson, which has won 25 or more contests in four of the last six seasons, returns all five starters and the top eight scorers and rebounders from last year's squad.
Among those returning are 2012 Southern Conference Players of the Year De'Mon Brooks (Coaches) and Jake Cohen (Media). Brooks was voted the preseason player of the year by the league's 12 head coaches, while Cohen and fellow senior Nik Cochran were selected to the all-conference team.
A member of the NCAA Division II's Conference Carolinas, Belmont Abbey finished the 2011-12 season with a 15-12 record. Preseason All-America selection Tyshawn Good led the Crusaders in scoring a year ago averaging 21.3 points.
The Wildcats will tip-off their 2012-13 season on Friday, Nov. 9 with a 7 p.m. home contest against Emory.
