Davidson Opens SoCon Tourney Play at Furman Sunday

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's soccer team is set to begin its Southern Conference Tournament run on the road with a 4 p.m. quarterfinal contest at Furman this Sunday, Oct. 28.
The Matchup
Davidson seeks its fifth SoCon Tournament title when it opens up the tournament at Furman Sunday, with gametime set for 4 p.m.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
Davidson trails the series against Furman, 19-8-3, including dropping the last three meetings. This will be the eighth time both teams have faced each other in the SoCon Tournament, with the Paladins holding a 6-1-1 edge.
In this year's matchup, just a week ago, the Paladins took a 2-0 decision on the 'Cats' home field. Davidson's last win at Furman came in 2008, a 3-2 victory during the regular season.
Davidson SoCon Tournament History
The Wildcats are 16-13 in the tournament since 1994, the first year Davidson was a part of the SoCon. During head coach Greg Ashton's seven-year tenure, the Wildcats are 6-6-1 and have advanced to the semifinals five times. Davidson has won the league tournament title four times, with its most recent coming in 2009 when the 'Cats advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time.

Scouting the Paladins
Third-seeded Furman (14-3-2) closed out the regular season on a five-game winning streak, four of them coming by way of a shutout win ... the Paladins needed a Jamie Alexander goal in the 102nd minute to defeat Wofford, which erased a 2-0 deficit, Wednesday ... Furman is first in the league in shots (398), goals (41), assists (33), goals allowed (13), GAA (0.66) and shutouts (10) ... leading the offense is Stephanie DeVita, who paces the SoCon with 18 goals and 39 points ... she has six game-winning goals ... Hannah Stanifer has five goals, four assists and 13 points ... the duo combined for two goals and an assist in the last meeting vs. Davidson ... Rose Hull has started 18 of 19 games between the pipes, with a 0.56 GAA (tops in SoCon), 61 saves and seven shutouts (2nd in SoCon) ... Next on the Schedule
If Davidson wins, it will head to Birmingham, Ala., to play in the semifinals, Nov. 2, on the campus of Samford. The 'Cats would face the winner of the Samford/College of Charleston matchup.
