STATESBORO, Ga. – With just seven minutes left in regulation, Georgia Southern's Alex Murphy found the back of the net for the game-winner, sending Davidson to a 1-0 defeat on the road in both team's regular season finale Wednesday evening at Eagle Field in Southern Conference women's soccer action.
 
Davidson (7-9-3, 5-5-1 SoCon) dropped its last two games of the season as it heads into the league tournament this weekend. The Wildcats five-match unbeaten streak vs. the Eagles (8-7-4, 4-6-1 SoCon) also came to a halt.
 
Murphy's winning goal came at the 82:23 mark when she chipped a shot over Rachel Locke's (Carlsbad, Calif.) outstretched arms to the far corner.
 
Becca Fisher (Fredricksburg, Va.) and Stephanie Piperno (Harwinton, Conn.) combined for eight shots, putting two of them on goal, but were unable to put one past the Eagle's Katie Merson, who finished with four saves to tie Locke.
 
Six of the Wildcats' 13 shots were put on goal as they held a 13-7 edge vs. GSU in shots and a 5-4 advantage in corners.
 
Davidson, which earned the sixth seed, gears up for the SoCon Tournament as it is one of eight teams to make the tournament. The Wildcats will take part in the quarterfinals Sunday with a trip to Greenville, S.C., to play third-seeded Furman.
 
Game Notes: The Wildcats finished 3-6-1 on the road during the regular season  … Davidson had won the last four road meetings vs. Georgia Southern … the 'Cats still hold a 18-9-1 lead in the all-time series … head coach Greg Ashton remains five wins from 100 for his nine-year career at Davidson.
