'Cats Close Out Home Slate This Weekend, Senior Night Set For Friday vs Wofford

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Looking to close out their home slate of games for the 2012 season in winning style and give their seniors a winning send off, Davidson plays host to SoCon opponents Wofford and Furman this weekend at Alumni Stadium.

The Matchup / Senior Night
The Wildcats will close out their 2012 home schedule with contests Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m., against Wofford and Furman. Friday night prior to their game against the Terriers, the 'Cats will honor their four seniors Rachael Newmister, Julie Calhoun, Louis Timboe and Rachel Barnett for their four years of excellence to the program.

The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
Davidson has owned the series against Wofford, holding a commanding 14-3-3 record. It currently has a nine-game unbeaten streak vs. the Terriers (6-0-3), having outscored them 16-4 during that spurt. Last year the 'Cats rolled to a 3-1 win at home.

Davidson trails the series against Furman, 18-8-3, including dropping a pair of games last year. In the latest matchup, last year in the quarterfinals of the SoCon tournament, the fourth-seeded Wildcats dropped a 2-1 contest at home.

Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson (6-7-2, 4-3-1 SoCon) went 0-1-1 last weekend at UNCG (L, 0-1) and Elon (T, 0-0) ... the shutout tie Sunday vs. the Phoenix was the 'Cats' sixth shutout of the season ... the defense ranks third in the SoCon in goals allowed (18) and tied for second in shutouts ... goalkeeper Rachel Locke was credited with her fifth shutout Sunday at Elon, tied for second-most in the SoCon ... she has started 15 of the 16 games, with a 1.19 GAA and 59 saves ... the 'Cats are currently sixth in the league standings at 4-3-1 ... they are 3-2-2 at home, with their latest win coming over CofC, 5-2 ... Julia Singley, who had two goals and two assists in the win vs. CofC, has team bests of four goals, a career-high three assists and a career-high 11 points ... Rachael Newmister is second (4 gls, 2 asts, 10 pts) ... in last year's 3-1 win vs. Wofford, Becca Fisher had her first career two-goal game to pace the offense ... the Wildcats return 23 of its 29 letterwinners, including nine starters ... Fisher, the reigning SoCon Freshman of the Year, was a preseason All-SoCon pick ... Davidson was picked to finish fifth in the SoCon preseason poll after finishing fourth overall a year ago ... head coach Greg Ashton is six wins away from reaching 100 for his career at Davidson.

Scouting the Terriers
Wofford (7-6-1, 1-5-2 SoCon) is coming off a 1-1 tie at home vs. Western Carolina ... Chloe Brackett scored for the Terriers, who could not hold a 1-0 lead ... the Terriers are sitting in 11th place in the SoCon with their 1-5-2 record ... they are 2-3 on the road, with wins coming at Coastal Carolina and Chattanooga ... Emily Bougas has a team-high three goals, while Maureen Buff paces the team with nine points (2 gls., 5 ast.) ... three keepers have rotated in goal, with Kimberly Cohn playing in a team-high eight games ... Kara Boggs has a team-high 21 saves ... Wofford returns 19 letterwinners, including 10 starters, from last year's 8-7-2 squad ... Bougas had a team-high 12 goals last year and 27 points.

Scouting the Paladins
Furman (11-3-2, 4-2-2 SoCon) won a pair of contests last weekend vs. Western Carolina and App. State ... Stephanie DeVita picked up her 34th point on an assist vs. ASU ... she leads the SoCon in goals (16) and points ... Hannah Stanifer has 4 goals, 3 assists and 11 points, second-best on the team ... she scored the game-winner in last year's quarterfinal game at Davidson ... the Paladins' 34 goals pace the league ... Rose Hull has started all 16 games between the pipes, with a 0.65 GAA (tops in SoCon), 51 saves and five shutouts ... the Paladins are currently fourth in the league in the standings ... Furman return eight starters and were picked third in the preseason poll ... head coach Andrew Burr has 97 wins at Furman.
