DAVIDSON, N.C. – In a game that was played fairly even across the board, Davidson came out on the short end of a 1-0 decision at UNCG Friday evening in Southern Conference women's soccer play at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
The Spartans (8-6-1, 5-1-1 SoCon) scored the game's lone goal on a header from Chesney White off a corner kick from Cat Barnekow at the 66:32 mark.
Davidson (6-7-2, 4-3 SoCon) saw its two-game win streak come to a halt in the one-goal defeat.
Both teams were fairly even in the box score, with UNCG holding just a one shot lead, 6-5, while both teams tied on corner kicks at 2-apiece. Davidson put three of its five shots on goal.
Rachel Locke (Carlsbad, Calif.) took the hard-fought defeat, falling to 5-6-2 between the pipes after stopping four shots. Jamie Simmons was credited with the win, recording three saves.
The Wildcats remain on the road for a 2 p.m. matchup at Elon Sunday, Oct. 14. They have rattled off wins in eight of the last nine games vs. the Phoenix.
Game Notes: The Wildcats fell to 3-5 on the road this year … UNCG has won the last three meetings … head coach Greg Ashton remains six wins from 100 for his nine-year career at Davidson.
