DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson learned tonight that it will host Wichita State Saturday, Feb. 18, at noon in John M. Belk Arena in the 10th annual Sears BracketBusters event, and the contest will be televised live on either ESPN or ESPN2.
The Wildcats are one of 26 teams selected to be a part of the BracketBusters event on the ESPN family of networks.
As part of the agreement, all 13 of the BracketBusters home teams, as well as the remaining 58 home squads, will play a “return” game at the home facility of their opponent in November or December of the 2012-13 season.
Davidson, which has won eight of its last nine games, is 15-5 overall and 9-1 in the Southern Conference. Wichita State is 18-4 overall and 9-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Shockers have also won eight of their last nine.
Davidson made its first appearance in the BracketBusters in 2008 and defeated Winthrop 60-47 on the road en route to a 25-game winning streak and a spot in the NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional championship game. The Wildcats lost to Butler, 75-63, at home in 2009.
The 10th annual Sears BracketBusters, a three-day men's college basketball event pitting potential NCAA Championship hopefuls against each other Feb. 17-19, will feature 13 nationally televised games – on either ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPN3. The NCAA hopefuls will be selected from a pool of 142 teams from 16 conferences, the largest Sears BracketBusters pool in the event's history, which includes two teams that reached the 2011 Final Four in Houston.
Davidson returns to action at Furman Wednesday, Feb. 1, in a 7 p.m. SoCon contest.
