SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Davidson forward Jake Cohen has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games played Jan. 3-9, the league office announced today.
Cohen averaged 19 points and 7.5 rebounds in two games last week as Davidson topped UNCG (92-63) and Georgia Southern (96-74).
After scoring nine points in just 14 minutes of action against the Spartans, Cohen turned in a career performance against Georgia Southern. The junior tallied career highs in points (29) and rebounds (12) as the Wildcats moved to 4-0 in league play with the win over the Eagles. Cohen missed just two shots in the game; he was 8-of-9 from the field and 11-of-12 from the free throw line.
He finished the week shooting 11-of-16 (.687) from the floor and connected on 93 percent of his free-throw attempts (13-of-14). It's the second SoCon Player of the Week honor for Cohen (Dec. 6) and the fourth time this season a Wildcat has earned the honor (JP?Kuhlman - Nov. 29, Nik Cochran - Dec. 20).
Cohen is 13 points shy of scoring 1,000 for his career as the Wildcats (10-4, 4-0 SoCon) host Western Carolina (8-8, 3-1 SoCon) Thursday night in a matchup of division leaders. Davidson travels to Appalachian State for a 2 p.m. contest Saturday.
