DAVIDSON, N.C. – Former Wildcat guard Brendan McKillop has signed a contract to play for the Bakken Bears, located in Aarhus, Denmark, the second largest city in the country behind Copenhagen.
The Bears won the Danish League Championship last season and posted a 24-3 mark in the regular season.
McKillop will travel today and join the team immediately to begin preparation for the season opener at the end of the month. He will be the only American citizen on the team, but fans may recognize his teammate, 7-foot-2 center Chris Christoffersen who helped Oregon to the Elite Eight in 2002.
“I'm very excited that I have been presented with the opportunity to continue playing basketball as a professional,” said McKillop. “Everything I've been told about the Bakken Bears organization and the city of Aarhus has been great, so I consider myself lucky to have such an excellent opportunity. It's been a dream of mine my whole life to one day be a professional basketball player, and I thank my family, my coaches, my teammates and all members of the Davidson family for helping to make this dream come true.”
Recently named to the NABC Honors Court for his work in the classroom, McKillop, who graduated in May with a degree in sociology and a 3.29 cumulative grade point average, started all 32 games he played in and averaged 9.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists as a senior.
His 216 career 3-pointers made ranks fourth in school history and his 254 career assists ranks 16th. McKillop was named SoCon Player of the Week Dec. 14, after scoring a game-high 21 points as the Wildcats defeated Charlotte 82-68 at Belk Arena. He tied his career high with seven made 3-pointers, leading Davidson to winning the Hornet's Nest Trophy for the first time since 2006.
He finished his Davidson career with 831 points, 254 assists, 215 rebounds and 70 steals in 117 games.
