DAVIDSON, N.C. — Looking to send their two seniors off in winning style in their final home match, Davidson opened the match vs. Furman by winning the doubles point, but saw the visitors sweep the 'Cats in singles play in earning a 6-1 decision on Saturday afternoon in the Knobloch Tennis Center in Southern Conference women's tennis action.
Davidson (5-18, 1-8 SoCon) closed out their home schedule at 5-11 as it honored seniors Samantha Galainena (Burr Ridge, Ill.) and Alison Rauh (Trier, Germany) prior to the match in the pairs final home match of their Wildcat careers.
The duo started their final home match off on a winning note, helping the 'Cats score wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles for an early 1-0 lead in team points. Galainena teamed with Katharine Dicconson (Pacific Grove, Calif.) to net their first win as a team, taking an 8-2 decision at No. 3.
Then Rauh and Stepani Synn (Conover, N.C.) picked up an 8-3 triumph at No. 2 for their third win as a team and sealed up the doubles point for the Wildcats. It was the second straight match the 'Cats had opened up with winning the doubles point.
Furman (11-10, 8-2 SoCon) came back though, sweeping all six singles slots in straight sets and spoiling Davidson's last home match of the year.
Galainena ended her home career with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat to Michele Stanford at No. 5, while Rauh scored seven games in two sets, but lost 6-4, 6-3 to Lauren Kline at No. 2.
Davidson closes out the regular season with a road match at UNCG on Monday, Apr. 18, with match time set for 3:30 p.m.
