Martin Caps Historic Career with 45th-Place Finish in 100 Freestyle

AUSTIN, TEXAS — Senior Lindsey Martin capped her storied career with a 45th-place finish in the 100 freestyle as she completed her slate of events at the 2011 NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday morning at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the campus of the University of Texas.
In her second straight NCAA appearance, the two-time CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Year wrapped up what is sure to be a Davidson Hall of Fame career with a 45th-place time of 49.75 in the 100 freestyle prelims.
Martin swam out of lane seven in heat six of nine, alongside Texas' Kelsey Amundsen (28th, 49.07), Maryland's Megan Lafferty (24th, 49.02), Indiana's Brittany Strumbel (27th, 49.03), USC's Kasey Carlson (12th, 48.48), Florida's Sarah Bateman (38th, 49.46) and Texas' Bethany Adams (31st, 49.18).
Auburn's Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace won the event's prelim with a pool-record time of 46.91, followed by Stanford's Kate Dwelley (47.62) and Arizona's Margo Geer (47.70). Cal Berkeley's Liv Jensen (47.94), Georgia's Morgan Scroggy (48.01), Cal Berkeley's Hannah Wilson (48.16), Texas' Karlee Bispo (48.16) and Georgia's Megan Romano (48.18) made it back to the championship final.
Cal Berkeley's Erica Dagg (48.21), Virginia's Lauren Perdue (48.35), LSU's Amanda Kendall (48.46), USC's Kasey Carlson (48.48), Maryland's Ann Fittin (48.48), Georgia's Allison Schmitt (48.48) Florida's Shara Stafford (48.51) and Auburn's Caitlin Geary (48.60) also made it back to the evening session. Finals in the event will be contested tonight as the championships conclude at 8 p.m. (EST).
