DAVIDSON, N.C. — Playing its second match in the past three days, the Davidson women's tennis team fell for the first time in the all-time series vs. Liberty, 7-0, on Thursday evening in the Knobloch Indoor Tennis Center.
Davidson saw its record fall to an even 3-3, as it suffered its first defeat to Liberty in eight matches (7-1). Liberty ran its mark to 2-1 as the Lady Flames were playing their second Southern Conference opponent in their first three matches of the season. They opened the season against Appalachian State, falling 5-2.
The Wildcats found themselves down 1-0 after losing all three doubles matches. The duo of Brites Moniz-Soares and Alison Rauh were the closest to scoring a win as they fell just 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.
Liberty's Jordan Jenkins' led the way then in singles play as she, Rebekah Jenkins and Annisha Domenech gave up just a combined five games in their three singles matches in helping the Flames sweep all six positions.
Nisha Crouser was the lone Wildcat that forced a third set, taking her first set, 6-2, before falling 7-6 in the second set. Since the match was decided, a super tie-breaker was played in the final set and the freshman fell short by three, 10-7.
Samantha Galainena also was close to scoring a win, playing well in a 6-4, 6-3 setback to Alexandra Sheeran at No. 4 singles.
The 'Cats wrap up their seven-match homestand to open 2011 with a 5 p.m. contest against No. 65 Winthrop on Wednesday, Feb. 9.
