DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson saw its two-match win streak come to an end as East Carolina took a 6-1 decision on Tuesday evening at the Knobloch Tennis Center in women's tennis action.
The Wildcats (3-2) entered the match 12-3 vs. ECU all-time, but were not able to match the Pirates (1-0), who are coming off an 18-win season and return eight letterwinners, as the 'Cats fell in their fifth match of seven straight at home to open the 2011 season.
ECU started the match with a sweep of all three doubles spots, taking 8-6, 8-3 and 8-5 decisions at all three positions.
Davidson's lone point in the match came from Brites Moniz-Soares (Angra Do Heroismo, Portugal) at No. 4 singles. The freshman ran her singles mark to 4-1 on the year with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Natalie Collins.
Junior Stephani Synn (Conover, N.C.) was close to giving Davidson a second team-point, falling in a tie-breaker in her first set, before dropping her final set, 6-4, to Jessica Cook at No. 1.
The Wildcats continue their homestand with a 5:30 p.m. match against Liberty on Thursday, Feb. 3.
