SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Davidson junior guard Nik Cochran has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games played December 13-19, the league office announced today.
Cochran scored a team-high 21 points, 19 of which came in the second half, as Davidson knocked off No. 12 Kansas 80-74 in Kansas City, Mo., Monday night.
Holding a three-point lead with 1:25 remaining in the game, Cochran hit a 25-foot three-pointer to give the Wildcats a 71-65 advantage. Cochran connected on 7-of-8 free throws during the game's final 3:04 to seal the win.
He shot 5-of-6 from the field and was 4-of-5 from three-point range as all four of his triples came in the second half. The Vancouver native added three assists and two rebounds in just 21 minutes of action against the Jayhawks.
Cochran leads the Southern Conference in free throw percentage (.929) and ranks fourth in three-point shooting (.467). He is the third different Davidson player to earn SoCon Player of the Week honors this season, joining JP Kuhlman (Nov. 29) and Jake Cohen (Dec. 6).
The Wildcats travel to UMass Thursday night for a 7 p.m. contest.
