Field Hockey Hosts App. State In NorPac Match Wednesday

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Appalachian State visits Belk Turf Field Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. to take on Davidson in a NorPac conference field hockey match.
NORPAC STANDINGS: Longwood is in position to win the NorPac East Division regular season title after its comeback win over the 'Cats on Saturday. Longwood is 4-1 with one game remaining at home against Appalachian State. Longwood earned a 3-0 win at App. State earlier in the month. Davidson needs to defeat App and Radford and a Longwood loss in order to tie for the division crown. Davidson must also win the App and Radford games to at least secure the No. 2 seed in the division.
LAST TIME OUT: FARMVILLE, Va. – Finley Amato put Davidson ahead with eight minutes remaining, but Longwood scored twice late to take a 3-2 win over the Wildcats in NorPac field hockey action Saturday afternoon at the Longwood University Athletics Complex. Olga Knop scored the game-winning goal for Longwood (10-8, 4-1 NorPac) in the 68th minute off a penalty corner, with Sarah Bietsch and Rachel Akers earning the assists.
SCOUTING DAVIDSON: Junior Finley Amato leads the team in scoring with 25 points on 10 goals and five assists, which ties her for the NorPac East lead with Stacey de Grandhomme of Longwood, who has played in three more matches. Senior Christine Rua is third in the East with 19 points on eight goals and three assists. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Fisher has a 2.54 goals against average and a .698 save percentage.
SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE: The Mountaineers are 2-14, 1-3 NorPac this season, with their wins coming against Radford and, just in their last outing, Liberty. Anna Long is among the nation's leaders in defensive saves with four. Brooklyn Shearer leads the team in scoring with 10 points (4 goals, 2 assists). Goalkeeper Bridgette Street has a 4.23 goals against average and a .670 save percentage.
THE SERIES: Davidson holds a 35-28-2 advantage over Appalachian State all-time. The Mountaineers have not defeated the 'Cats since 2009.
HONORS: Christine Rua was named the NorPac East Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while goalkeeper Sarah Fisher was named the NorPac East Defensive Player of the Week after stellar performances against Appalachian State and Saint Louis. Rua tallied a hat trick against Saint Louis and Fisher held both teams to one goal each. Finley Amato earned her second weekly offensive award after scoring both goals in a 2-1 win over Longwood. Tyler McFayden was named the NorPac East Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the double-overtime, game-winning goal at William & Mary. Amato was first named the NorPac East Offensive Player of the Week after tallying a goal and an assist against No. 16 Louisville. Fisher was first named the NorPac East Defensive Player of the Week after posting a season-opening shutout against Georgetown.
