DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson learned tonight that it will travel to Presbyterian Feb. 19, for its final non-conference game of the season. The game time will be announced later this week.
The match-up resulted from Davidson's participation in the original pool of teams under consideration for the ESPNU BracketBusters, a three-day men's college basketball extravaganza pitting potential NCAA Tournament hopefuls against each other and featuring 11 nationally-televised games—on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU —selected from a pool of 114 teams. As part of the agreement, Presbyterian will play a “return” game in Belk Arena in November or December of the 2011-12 season.
Davidson, which plays SoCon opponent Georgia Southern on the road tonight, is 9-12 overall and 3-7 in the conference. Presbyterian is 10-12 overall and 4-6 in the Big South. The Wildcats and Blue Hose have played just twice, with each team winning at home. The last meeting was Jan. 18, 1965, when Davidson defeated Presbyterian 130-67.
This is Davidson's third time participating in the BracketBusters series pool. The Wildcats topped Winthrop 60-47 in a BracketBusters game on the road in 2008 en route to a 25-game winning streak and a spot in the NCAA?Tournament Midwest Regional championship game. The Wildcats fell 75-63 at home to Butler in a BracketBusters game in 2009.
BracketBusters, named because of the success of the teams in NCAA Tournament play, will provide the 22 televised teams an opportunity to play other top non-conference opponents three weeks prior to Selection Sunday. The 92 teams not selected for BracketBusters will compete against each other over the same three days.
