Former Davidson star Stephen Curry is training with the U.S. National Team in Las Vegas this week and is trying to make the final roster for the FIBA World Championships, which take place Aug. 28-Sept. 12 in Turkey.
Curry was one of 21 players to start training camp July 19, and while some cuts may be made by week's end, the final roster doesn't have to be submitted until 48 hours before Team USA's first game. The National Team will reconvene in New York City Aug. 8-16 and play a game against France Aug. 15, at 1 p.m. in Madison Square Garden.
The team will also train in Spain and Greece and play three more games before heading to Turkey for the tournament.
Curry played for Team USA in the U19 World Championships in 2007 and helped the squad to an 8-1 record and the silver medal.
In his first NBA season, Curry made the all-rookie team, averaging 17.5 points and 5.9 assists, and finished second to Tyreke Evans in the Rookie of the Year voting.
