ROCK HILL, S.C. — Playing its final non-conference opponent of the season, the Davidson men's tennis team fell on the road to the Winthrop Eagles, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon at the Memorial Courts.

Davidson saw its record fall to an even 10-10 on the year, while Winthrop improved to 9-11.

Joe Schafer (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Eric Noble (Fayetteville, N.C.) picked up their team-leading 12th doubles win at No. 1 after scoring an 8-3 victory over Guy Kubi and Nadav Ruppin. But, the Eagles took home wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions to open up a 1-0 lead.

The senior duo of Noble and Sam Burns (Banner Elk, N.C.) each netted singles wins for Davidson's two points in the match as Winthrop took wins at No. 1and 3-5 for the victory.

Noble earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Liran Levy at the No. 2 position. He scored his seventh singles win of the year and 37th of his career.

Burns also took home a straight set match win with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph over Preetham Moras at No. 6 for his 13th singles win of the season. He won his 35th career singles match.

Davidson looks to close out the season on a winning note when it travels to Boone, N.C. to face Appalachian State on Sunday, Apr. 18, at 1 p.m. The Wildcats are seeking to close out Southern Conference play with a .500 mark as they sit at 4-5 on the season.
