Cohen named to All-Freshman Team
DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson men's basketball freshman JP Kuhlman has been named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year in a vote by the league's head coaches, it was announced today. Classmate Jake Cohen joins Kuhlman on the SoCon All-Freshman team.
Kuhlman started 23 of Davidson's 30 games during the regular season while averaging 12.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. The 6-foot-4 guard is second only to Cohen among freshmen scorers while pacing SoCon rookies in assists, 3-point field goal percentage, assist/turnover ratio and minutes played.
Kuhlman joins current assistant coach Landry Kosmalski and Stephen Curry as the only Wildcats to claim the coaches' Freshman of the Year accolade.
Cohen, who also started 23 games for the 'Cats, leads all rookie scorers and ranks 10th in the league overall in scoring with 13.4 points a game. The 6-foot-10 forward also ranks 13th overall in rebounding (5.1 rpg), 12th in field goal percentage (.468) and seventh in blocked shots.
It's the first time Davidson has had two players on the All-Freshman Team since 2003, when Ian Johnson and Brendan Winters earned the honor.
Davidson, which finished the regular season 16-14 overall and 11-7 in league play, takes on Elon in SoCon Tournament first-round action Friday at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
