DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson wrestling team will host a doubleheader featuring Anderson and Belmont Abbey Friday night at 7 p.m. in Belk Arena.
Fans unable to attend in person can follow the action at home on live video and, new this season, live stats.
Scouting the Wildcats: Alex Radsky, Vitaly Radsky and Tyler Mullen have emerged as the 'Cats' (2-14, 0-5 SoCon) top performers after all three concluded regular season Southern Conference action with winning records. Vitaly posted the top record of 4-1, only losing a close 4-2 decision to VMI's David Yost. Mullen was injured when Davidson hosted Chattanooga, but went 3-1 in the following matches, only losing to preseason All-SoCon selection Kyle Blevins of Appalachian State. Alex Radsky went 3-2 and has won his last three matches and seven of his last eight. Vitaly has now won his last four bouts and nine of his last 11. Blevins ended Mullen's seven-match win streak Tuesday.
Vitaly boasts the top dual match record at 9-2. However, senior Ben Altman still leads the team with 38 points scored in dual meets and 17 wins overall.
Scouting the Trojans: Anderson, a member of Division II, enters with a 5-12 record and is in the midst of an eight-match losing streak. Select wrestlers competed in the Davidson Open in December where Melchisedac LaVergne led the team with a third-place finish in the 141-pound bracket. Davidson is the third SoCon team they have faced this season. Anderson suffered a 40-0 loss to Chattanooga in November and a 33-2 loss to The Citadel in January. Jonathan Jackson leads the team with a 15-5 record at 157 pounds.
Scouting the Crusaders: Belmont Abbey, also of Division II, enters with a 1-13 record. Abbey has faced one other SoCon opponent, falling to Appalachian State, 47-0. Shane Summerlin (125 pounds) and Jake Varilek (165) both lead the team with 12 wins each.
The Series: Davidson suffered a close 20-14 defeat at Anderson last season, but defeated Belmont Abbey, 31-15. Davidson is 6-6 all-time against Anderson, and 3-0 all-time against Belmont Abbey.
Up Next: Following the doubleheader, just three duals remain before Davidson hosts the 73rd Annual SoCon Wrestling Championships on Mar. 6. The 'Cats will take their final road trip of the season to Buies Creek, N.C., where they will face Campbell and NC State. The regular season will conclude Feb. 18 when Davidson hosts Duquesne.
