Martin, Castle Win Events, Set Records as Davidson Concludes Kenyon Invitational

GAMBIER, Ohio – Senior Lindsey Martin broker her own school record with an NCAA B-cut time to set a meet and pool record, as Davidson concluded competition at the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational Saturday night at the Kenyon Aquatics Center.

Martin won the 100 free with a meet, pool and Davidson-best, NCAA B-cut time of 49.54 and anchored the Wildcats to a win in the 400 freestyle relay, combining with senior Anna Stringfield, sophomore Jean DeOrnellas, and senior Emily Castle for a season-best time of 3:25.16.

Castle won the 100 fly with a meet and pool-record time of 55.18 and also won the consolation final of the 100 free with a season-best time of 52.81.

Martin and Castle were the only individual winners on the final day of competition, but junior Geoff Peitz, seniors Jessica Delgehausen and Anna Stringfield, sophomore Drew Onken and freshman Liz Mace each earned spots in the championship finals.

For the Wildcat men, Peitz was runner-up in the championship final of the 100 fly with a time of 50.39, and Onken swam three season bests in three event finals. He finished third in the 200 back with a time of 1:52.49, second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.47 and fourth in 2:05.81 in the 200 breast.

Mace was seventh with a time of 58.25 in the 100 fly, and Delgehausen# finished ninth in the 500 free with a season-best time of 5:07.57. Stringfield swam the final championship swim for the 'Cats, touching sixth in the 200 back with a season-best time of 2:06.31.

The Wildcats also earned 10 swims in the consolation heats. Like Castle, sophomore Wills Cooper won his heat, finishing with a time of 46.33 in the 100 free. Kerman was 14th (47.15) and Droll was 16th (47.26), and Delgehausen finished 15th in the heat with a time of 53.49 in the event as well. Kerman also finished 13th in the consolation final of the 100 fly (51.36).

Sophomore Kelsi Hobbs was 16th in the consolation final of the 200 back (2:12.25) and 12th-place (58.83) in the 100 fly. Senior Ineke Stegger finished 12th in the consolation final of the 200 breast with a time of 2:26.66, and freshman Thomas Bigham was 14th with a time of 2:09.66.

The Wildcat women's relay of Stringfield, freshman Caroline Vrana, Castle and Martin finished fourth in the 200 medley with a season-best time of 1:47.43. Peitz, Onken, junior Kerman and senior Bryan Droll were fifth in the event with a season-best time of 1:33.94.

Onken, Kerman, Droll and Cooper closed out the meet with a fourth-place finish in a season-best time of 3:05.72 in the 400 freestyle relay.

The Wildcat women finished in fourth place with 600.5 points, behind the University of Pennsylvania (1433), Kenyon (1314) and Colgate (704.5). Wayne State (499.5), Carnegie Mellon (463.5) and Grove City College (306) rounded out the field.

Pennsylvania won the men's meet as well, amassing 1600 points to beat Kenyon (1482.5). Wayne State (684) finished ahead of Carnegie Mellon (496), and the Davidson men finished in fifth with 493.5 points. Grove City College was sixth with 335.
