Peitz Leads Wildcats Past Bison, Women Sweep Six-Team CCSA Field

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Competing against six CCSA teams, the Davidson Wildcats won 21 individual titles and swept the relays, as the men's team defeated the Howard Bison, and the women won dual-meet competition against the field of Campbell, Georgia Southern, Howard, Liberty, N.C. A&T and Radford Saturday afternoon on senior day at Cannon Natatorium.

The Wildcat men defeated the Howard Bison, 185-66, while the women defeated Howard, 245-42. The Wildcat women also picked up wins over Campbell, 222-66; Georgia Southern, 173-127; Liberty, 230-55; N.C. A&T, 248-26; and Radford, 229-70.

Junior Geoffrey Peitz led the way for the Wildcats, winning three titles — the 100 back, 100 free and 100 fly. Senior Jessica Delgehausen (500 free, 1000 free), sophomore Drew Onken (1000 free, 200 IM), junior Curtis Chaney (200 free, 500 free), junior Lauren Kamperman (200 fly, 200 IM), senior Lindsey Martin (50 free, 100 free) and freshman Brian McRae (1-meter, 3-meter) each won a pair of events, while senior Anna Stringfield (200 free), senior Bryan Droll (50 free), freshman Ethan Levinson (200 back), senior Ben Lucas (200 breast), senior Emily Castle (100 fly) and freshman #Kaliya Burton-Akright (1-meter) also were individual event winners.

The Wildcats got off to a quick start by sweeping the 200 medley relays. Seniors Stringfield, Ineke Stegger, Castle and Martin won the relay with a time of 1:48.13, while sophomore Kelsi Hobbs, freshman Caroline Vrana, freshman Liz Mace and sophomore Jean DeOrnellas finished second in 1:53.62. The men's A relay finished first with a time of 1:37.80 and ahead of Chaney, Onken, sophomore Tim Keating and sophomore Ben Wilde (1:37.96).

Delgehausen won her first of two events with a time of 10:31.23 in the 1000 free, and Onken made it another sweep for the Wildcats with a season-best, winning time of 9:51.26. Freshman Thomas Bigham finished second with a time of 10:23.03.

Stringfield won the 200 free with a time of 1:55.11, and Chaney kept the winning going with a first-place time of 1:43.04 and just missing a season-best time on the men's side. Sophomore Wills Cooper finished in the runner-up spot with a time of 1:47.67.

Georgia Southern's Lindsay Goodman (59.91) became the first non-Wildcat winner of the afternoon, beating Hobbs (1:01.65) in the 100 back, before Peitz got his first win with a season-best time of 50.98 to defeat Levinson (54.47).

The Eagles took the first two spots in the women's 100 breast, as Megan Ostrom (1:08.34) and Courtney Harrison (1:08.48) finished ahead of Stegger (1:08.83). Darell Hungerford won the only individual title of the day for the Howard Bison, defeating Lucas (1:02.12) with a time of 1:01.91 in the men's 100 breast.

Kamperman won her first event with a time of 2:12.96 in the 200 fly, which was not contested on the men's side.

Martin and Castle went one and two in the 50 free, with times of 23.60 and 24.54, and Droll and Wilde did the same for the Wildcat men in 21.46 and 23.00, respectively.

Georgia Southern's Sara Meisenhelder won the 3-meter event with a score of 240.10, ahead of Burton-Akright, who finished with a runner-up score of 231.45. Freshman McRae won the 1-meter with a score of 221.15.

Martin picked up her second win behind a time of 51.68 in the 100 free, and Peitz did the same on the men's side with a time of 46.72. Cooper finished in the runner-up spot with a time of 47.57 in the event.

Goodman completed the sweep of the backstroke events for the Eagles, finishing ahead of Stringfield (2:11.49) with a time of 2:09.62 in the 200 back. Levinson won the event for the Wildcat men with a time of 1:56.50.

In the 200 breast, Harrison picked up the win for the Eagles with a time of 2:27.06, ahead of Stegger, who finished second with a time of 2:27.62. Lucas won the men's race with a season-best time of 2:15.58, ahead of freshman Drew Glenn (2:22.78).

Delgehausen got a second win with a first-place time of 5:07.40 in the 500 free, and Chaney did the same with a season-best time of 4:56.49 on the men's side, ahead of freshman Will Fox (4:58.80).

Castle continued her dominance in the 100 fly, finishing first with a time of 56.96 and ahead of Hobbs (1:00.26). Peitz earned his third win with another season-best, first-place time of 50.23 in the men's heat, outracing junior Joe Burquist (53.13).

After a runner-up finish on the 1-meter, Burton-Akright came back to win the 3-meter event with a season-best score of 249.05, and McRae made it a sweep with a winning score of 183.45 on the 1-meter.

In the final individual event of the day, Kamperman won a second title with a time of 2:11.84 in the 200 IM, as did Onken with a first-place time of 1:56.11 in the men's heat.

The Wildcats concluded the meet with a pair of wins in the 400 freestyle relay, as Delgehausen, Stringfield, Castle and Martin won the women's event with a time of 3:35.98, and junior David Kerman, Chaney, Cooper and Droll won the men's race with a time of 3:12.25.

Davidson will host its final home meet of the season when VMI visits Cannon Natatorium Friday at 5 p.m. before the Wildcats wrap up the regular season at Gardner-Webb the following afternoon.
