DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson's Brendan McKillop has been named the Southern Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for all games played Dec. 7-13, the league office announced today. The senior guard is the first Davidson player to be given the honor since Stephen Curry in March of 2009.
McKillop tied his season high with a game-high 21 points as the Wildcats defeated Charlotte 82-68 at Belk Arena last Saturday night. He tied his career high with seven made 3-pointers in the win, going 7-of-12 from the floor with all of his shots coming from 3-point range. McKillop added two assists, a rebound and one steal.
With Davidson holding a three-point lead midway through the second half, McKillop knocked down a triple and assisted on another 3-pointer from JP Kuhlman as part of a 14-4 run that moved Davidson out in front 53-40.
McKillop ranks third in the Southern Conference and 34th nationally with 2.9 made triples per game. He is averaging 11.2 points per game through Davidson' first nine games and has played 35.2 minutes per contest, the fifth-highest average in the league. McKillop's 157 career three-pointers rank ninth on Davidson's all-time list, and he is 371 points shy of 1,000 for his career.
The Wildcats (5-4, 1-1 SoCon) return to the court Monday, Dec. 20, when they take on St. John's as part of the MSG Holiday Festival in New York City.
