12/1/2010 1:47:50 PM | Men's Basketball
DAVIDSON, N.C. - The fifth annual BlackOut Belk Arena will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, when the Davidson men's basketball team hosts Charlotte at 7 p.m.
The concept behind BlackOut Belk is to flood Belk Arena with black T-shirts, showing a unified home crowd and also Davidson's commitment to the community as proceeds from the event are donated to a local charity each year. This year's BlackOut Belk Arena celebrates the renewal of the cross-county rivalry with Charlotte in the Battle for the Hornet's Nest Trophy following a two-year hiatus. Prior to the two-year hiatus, the teams played annually for thirty straight years.
Black Out Belk t-shirts can be purchased for $10.00 at 'Cats on Main spirit store in downtown Davidson or at the Davidson Bookstore while supplies last. Shirts can be purchased via cash, check, Cat Card and credit.
This year's BlackOut Belk Arena program works with the Davidson College Student-Athlete Advisory Council to help raise toys and money for Toys for Tots, whose goal is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
BlackOut Belk is the tipoff game in a series of charitable events involving Davidson Basketball this season. Also scheduled are the Pink Zone event for women's basketball (Feb. 5 at 2 p.m.) which will benefit the Kay Yow Foundation, and the “Kicks from 'Cats” game (Jan. 29th at 2 p.m.), which will partner with Samaritan's Feet to help raise shoes and money for Nigeria, home of current Wildcat Frank Ben-Eze and former Wildcat Andrew Lovedale.
BlackOut Belk is presented by the Personal Injury Litigation Team of McIntosh Law Firm, Davidson Screen Printers and LKNSavings.com
