BOONE, N.C. — Playing the third game of its four-game road trip, the Davidson women's soccer team earned their third tie of the season as they played to a scoreless draw at Appalachian State on Friday night in Southern Conference play at the ASU Soccer Stadium.
The tie was Davidson's third of the year in league play, the first time they have had three league ties in a season. The 'Cats saw their record move to 4-6-3 overall and 0-2-3 in SoCon action. For ASU, it was its third straight tie as the Mountaineers went to 3-5-4 overall and matched the Wildcats in league play at 0-2-3.
Davidson held a 13-6 advantage in shots, including a pair of shots each in the first and second overtimes. The Wildcats kept ASU's Caroline Clarke busy in goal, putting 10 of the overall shots on goal. She finished with nine saves.
The Wildcats nearly broke through in the 73rd minute, when they fired off three straight shots in less than a minute of play as the freshmen tandem of Kelsey Krueger (Keller, Texas) and Lauren Swany (Fayetteville, Ga.) along with Allison Drutchas (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) each got off a shot.
In all, six of the 'Cats 13 shots came in the second period.
Junior goalkeeper Jessie Baxa (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) finished with two saves in 110 minutes of action as she was making her 11th start of the season. Her record moved to 4-5-1 and she tallied her fourth shutout of the season.
Drutchas, Rachel Barnett (Raleigh, N.C.) and Callan Elswick (Locust Grove, Va.) each had three shots apiece, putting two of their shots each on goal, to pace the team.
Davidson wraps up its road swing with a 4 p.m. contest at Western Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 10.
