
‘Cats Fall in Final of Four-Game Road Trip, 1-0

CULLOWHEE, N.C. — Looking to close out its season-high four-game road swing in winning fashion, the Davidson women's soccer team was not able to counter an early goal by Western Carolina and fell by the final score of 1-0 in Southern Conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Catamount Soccer Complex.
Davidson fell to 4-7-3 overall and is still seeking its first league win as it dropped to 0-3-3. WCU, which earned its second win in a row over the Wildcats in the all-time series, improved to 5-7-2 overall and 2-3-1 in SoCon play, getting a pair of league wins this weekend.
The Wildcats matched the Catamounts early with a pair of shots each on goal, before they found themselves down 1-0 at the 20:21 mark. Western Carolina's Kayla Sedgley passed a ball to Christine Kaznowski deep inside of the box. Kaznowski took the ball and put herself in between the goalie and the defender, and knocked in the ball for her fifth goal of the season.
Davidson charged quickly down the field once play was reset and got off a shot from the foot of sophomore Rachel Barnett (Raleigh, N.C.), but WCU's Caitlin Williams came up with the save.
Lauren Swany (Fayetteville, Ga.) got of a shot later in the half off a corner kick, but Williams again came up with another save. In all, the Catamount goalkeeper finished with eight saves.
Davidson came out aggressive in the second half, pressuring WCU's defense, but were unable to find the equalizer. The 'Cats got off five more shots in the half and earned five corner kicks.
Jessie Baxa (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) closed out the game with four saves between the pipes, while senior Allison Drutchas (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) led the team with three shots, all on goal.
The 1-0 defeat for the Wildcats was their third of the season as they return home now to take on College of Charleston this coming Thursday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. They will be looking to remain perfect at home as the Wildcats are currently 3-0-2.
