DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's soccer team, looking to remain perfect at home, will play host to College of Charleston on Thursday night at Alumni Stadium.
The Matchup
Davidson returns home after a season-long four-game road trip as it plays host to College of Charleston on Thursday at 7 p.m. The 'Cats are 6-0-3 in their last nine home games dating back to last season. They finished the 2009 season with wins over Wofford, Furman and Georgia Southern, and tied Samford.
This year has seen Davidson score wins over UNC Wilmington, High Point and Winthrop, while tallying ties against Furman and Wofford.
The All-Time Series
Davidson has owned the series vs. the Cougars with a 10-5 advantage. In the last six meetings, the 'Cats are 4-2, including a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime win in last year's Southern Conference Finals. CofC took the regular season game last year, 2-0.
Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson (4-7-3, 0-3-3 SoCon) earned a tie and then suffered a loss last weekend in games at Appalachian State and Western Carolina ... the 'Cats' finished 0-3-1 on its season-long four-game road trip ... Friday's 0-0 tie vs. ASU gave Davidson three league ties, the most it has recorded in a season ... Sunday's 1-0 setback was the 'Cats third of the season ... the 'Cats will be looking to breakout of a scoring drought in which they have been held scoreless in the last four games ... Davidson is currently riding a nine-game home unbeaten streak dating back to last year (6-0-3) ... the longest streak in program history is 11, set during the 2005 and 2006 seasons ... Allison Drutchas (preseason All-SoCon pick) holds the team-lead with nine points (2 gls, 5 asts) ... her five assists are a career-high and tied for third-most in the SoCon ... Deprise Brazel is second with six points (team-best 3 gls.) ... In last year's 1-0 double-overtime win in the SoCon Finals vs. CofC, Amanda Flink put in a header in the 109th minute for the game-winner ... Jessie Baxa leads the team with 53 saves and four shutouts between the pipes ... 16 letterwinners return this year – eight of those being starters from last year's NCAA Tournament team ... Davidson was picked to finish fourth in the SoCon preseason poll ... Callan Elswick, nominated as one of three 30 seniors, was selected Oct. 6 as one of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
Scouting the Cougars
College of Charleston (6-8, 3-3 SoCon) went 0-2 last weekend in games at Elon and No. 21 UNCG ... the Cougars are 2-3 in their last five games, all vs. league opponents ... Maryam Buazza leads the team with 15 points on five goals and five assists ... she ranks fourth in the league in points ... Sarah Schaidle and Sloane Levin are next on the team with 12 points apiece ... Schaidle has a team-high six goals ... in all, CofC has netted 29 goals, second-best in the SoCon ... the Cougars' 16 assists are sixth-best in the league ... goalkeeper Katie Tate has started eight of her 11 games ... she has 29 saves and is 4-5 in goal with a pair of shutouts ... CofC sits at 3-4 on the road ... the Cougars were picked to finish third, just ahead of Davidson ... defender Annie Pease was the lone Cougar to earn a spot on the preseason all-conference team ... head coach Christian Michner enters his first year at Charleston after two years at Illionis as an assistant. He is a 1998 grad of CofC.
