GREENSBORO, N.C. —
No. 25 UNCG's Tabitha Padgett netted a hat trick as Davidson saw its two-game winning streak in the series halted against UNCG, falling 4-0 on Sunday afternoon in women's Southern Conference soccer action at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

The Wildcats fell to 4-6-2 overall and 0-2-2 in league play, while UNCG improved to 9-1-1 and remained perfect in league play at 4-0. The 'Cats had won the last two against the Spartans, including a 1-0 semifinal victory last year on their way to the SoCon tournament title. They also had stopped UNCG's 33-game league unbeaten streak in last season's regular season's match.

Both teams played evenly through the first 27 minutes to start. Davidson had a couple of looks on goal, including a shot from Stephanie Gerow (Houston, Texas) that just sailed over the crossbar outside the 18-yard box on the far side.

The 'Cats' defense halted any Spartan chances in the early goings as goalkeeper Jessie Baxa (Bloomfield Hill, Mich.) stopped three shots and the rest of the defense cleared out a pair of corner kick attempts.

The scoreless tie ended just inside the 28th minute when UNCG's Tabitha Padgett knocked in a shot past a diving Baxa off a pass from Lauren Hein in the 18-yard box for a 1-0 Spartan lead.

Davidson found itself down 2-0 then 12 minutes into the start of the second when the Spartans added a second goal. UNCG's Jesse Gulledge got a pass at the top of the box, spun with the ball and kicked a shot to the far left post with 56:34 on the clock.

The Wildcats tried to keep pressure on the Spartan defense, but were not able to capitalize on any of their chances, including their first three corner attempts of the game in the half.

The final two goals came from the Spartans' Padgett, who capped off her offensive afternoon with a breakaway goal in the 82nd minute and then added her third goal of the day for the hat trick with a chip shot over the head of Baxa to the top shelf in the six-yard box during 83rd minute.

Padgett also earned an assist on the Spartans' second goal to give her three goals and an assist on the afternoon.

Baxa closed with seven saves in goal, while UNCG's Kelsey Kearney came up with two.

The Wildcats will seek their first conference win when they continue their four-game road swing with a trip to Appalachian State on Friday, Oct. 8. Gametime is set for 7 p.m. They then will finish up the road trip with a 4 p.m. game at Western Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 10.

GAME NOTES: Davidson's two-game win streak vs. UNCG entering the game was its longest in the all-time series ... Davidson remains two SoCon wins away from reaching the 100 mark in program history ... this was the second match of the year Davidson has faced a team ranked in the top-25 nationally, facing No. 7 Texas A&M back on Sept. 3 ... Baxa's seven saves pushed her season total to 47 ... freshman Tyler Wilson saw her first action of the season on the defensive side of the ball.
