DAVIDSON, N.C. — Junior goalkeeper Jessie Baxa (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) stopped five shots and the Wildcat defense held strong as Davidson, playing in its second-to-last home game of 2010, earned a 0-0 draw in double-overtime vs. visiting Samford on a cool Friday evening at Alumni Stadium in Southern Conference women's soccer action.
The Wildcats earned their seventh shutout of the year as they saw their record run to 5-8-4 overall and 1-4-4 in SoCon action. The four ties is the most they have had in a season. With its tie, Davidson matches the program's longest home unbeaten streak at 11 games (6-0-5), which was set during the 2005 and 2006 season.
Samford, coming in riding a six-game winning streak at the start of play, moved to 10-5-2 and 6-2-1 in league play.
Davidson concludes its 2010 home schedule with a 2 p.m. contest against Chattanooga on Sunday. The 'Cats will honor their four seniors as part of Senior Day.
GAME NOTES: The Wildcats remain one SoCon win away from reach 100 in the program's 22-year history ... Davidson remains unbeaten in the all-time series vs. the Bulldogs at 1-0-2 ... Baxa's sixth shutout of the year pushes her career total to 13 ... those six shutouts match Bevin English (2006) for fifth-most in a single-season, while her 13 total shutouts are just outside the top-five on the career list.
