DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's soccer team returns to Alumni Stadium Saturday night for a Southern Conference match against UNCG. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.

“This is another massive SoCon match,” said Davidson head coach Matt Spear. “That may sound repetitive, as each conference match is crucial, hotly contested, and very much up for grabs, but UNC-Greensboro is coming off an emphatic win over Georgia Southern and an impressive tie against current SoCon frontrunner College of Charleston.

“It's a home game for us, so we must come out strong, make an early impact, and push with pride and passion for the full 90-plus minutes.”

Fans unable to attend can follow the action via live video and live stats.

Scouting the Wildcats: After playing their last four games on the road, Davidson enters with a 5-4-4 overall, 1-2-1 SoCon record. The 'Cats dropped their first two SoCon games of the season to Elon and College of Charleston, but rebounded with a 3-0 win at Wofford and a draw at Furman. The Davidson defense earned shutouts in the past two outings. Mark Millard tied Alex Caskey for the team lead in scoring in the win at Wofford with two goals. Both have five goals and two assists on the season to rank second in the league in scoring with 12 points. Millard's Wofford performance earned him Co-Southern Conference Player of the Week honors. The 'Cats' four draws this season are the most since 2002 when they also had four. Their five shutouts are the most since 2005 when they had six. Davidson is currently tied for fourth in the conference standings with four points. Goalkeeper Chip Sanders has a 1.25 goals against average and a .773 save percentage.

Scouting the Spartans:
SoCon foe UNCG comes to Davidson with 5-5-2 overall record, 1-1-1 in the conference. Most recently, the Spartans beat Georgia Southern, 6-1 and followed with a 2-2 tie to No. 25 College of Charleston Wednesday. Their lone conference loss came to Elon, 1-0 in double overtime, on October 2. UNCG opened the season with a 2-1 win over Charlotte, now ranked 23rd nationally by the NSCAA. Hakan Ilhan leads the Spartans with 12 points (4 g, 4a), which ties him for second in the SoCon along with Davidson's Caskey and Millard and Elon's Chris Thomas. Eli Garner is right behind with three goals. Goalkeeper Peyton Ford has a .695 save percentage, and a goals against average of 1.43.

“They have added a bunch of new quality players this season,” said Spear. “There is a lot of talent and hunger on their squad.”

The Series:
UNCG holds a 16-7 advantage all-time against Davidson, and won last year's meeting in Greensboro, 3-1, to end the 'Cats Southern Conference tournament hopes. However, the 'Cats defeated the Spartans the last time they visited Alumni Stadium in 2008, 1-0.

Up Next:
Davidson returns to the road, visiting Appalachian State Tuesday night. They will then finish the regular season with three home games: Georgia Southern on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m., Presbyterian on Saturday Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. and Wake Forest on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.
