DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson and UNCG combined for 38 shots, but none found the back of the net as the Southern Conference men's soccer foes battled to a 0-0 draw Saturday night in Alumni Stadium.
The scoreless draw was Davidson's (5-4-5, 1-2-2 SoCon) second consecutive (a program first) as they battled to a 0-0 tie at Furman Tuesday.
The 'Cats held their opponent scoreless for the sixth time this season and the third time in a row- feats not accomplished since 2005 and 2003, respectively.
The Wildcats improved as the game went on, outshooting UNCG (5-5-3, 1-1-2 SoCon) 6-3 in the overtime periods.
Junior goalkeeper Chip Sanders (Thomasville, Ga.) made eight saves for Davidson, while his counterpart, Peyton Ford, also stopped eight for UNCG.
Junior defender Greg Macnamara (Arlington, Va.) played exceptionally well on defense for the 'Cats, nullifying several UNCG attacks and making a save himself. Sophomore midfielder Peter Paras (Dublin, Ohio) led Davidson with five shots, while senior midfielder Alex Caskey had four, one on goal. Junior Mark Millard (Oak Ridge, N.C.) also had four shots, three of which were on goal.
Hakam Ilhan led UNCG with eight shots, but only two on goal. All three of Eli Garner's attempt were on net.
UNCG finished with slim margins in shots, 20-18, shots on goal, 9-8, and corner kicks, 6-4.
Davidson will travel to Boone, N.C. Tuesday night to take on Appalachian State in another conference matchup. The 'Cats will next play at home Tuesday, October 26 when they host Georgia Southern.
Notes: Sanders joins Alex Deegan (1992) and Mike Iordanou (1981) in a tie for the fourth-most shutouts in a single-season by a Wildcat goalkeeper … Bart Creasman holds the record with eight (2003) while Jim Kelly (1987) and Soren Johnson (2002) both posted seven … Davidson's five draws this season are the most since 1992 when the 'Cats earned their fourth and fifth draws in the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament, but advanced on penalty kicks … the 1992 season was also the last time Davidson had two scoreless draws in the same season.
