DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson men's basketball team will begin the 2010-11 campaign with its first official practice Friday, Oct. 15. The Wildcats are one of some 345 NCAA Division I men's basketball teams that will begin their journey on the road they hope will culminate in the NCAA Tournament.
While Davidson is not having a Midnight Madness event this season, fans are invited to take a look at this year's men's team at the annual Red/Black Scrimmage, which is Oct. 30, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., prior to the home Davidson football game against Dayton.
Davidson returns eight lettermen from last season's team, which went 16-15 overall and 11-7 in the Southern Conference South Division to place third. The Wildcats have four of their top six scorers back, including sophomores Jake Cohen and JP Kuhlman, who each earned SoCon Freshman of the Year honors - Kuhlman from the league's head coaches and Cohen from the conference media association.
Also back for his final campaign is co-captain Brendan McKillop, one of two Wildcats to start all 31 games. He ranked first in the league and 10th nationally in assist to turnover ratio, dishing out 124 assists with just 46 turnovers. The eight returners will blend in with five incoming freshman and Clint Mann, a sophomore transfer from Iowa State who sat out last season because of NCAA transfer rules.
Davidson plays a home exhibition game Saturday, Nov. 6, against Lenoir-Rhyne at 2 p.m. in John M. Belk Arena before opening the season at Penn Nov. 13. That contest is set for a 7 p.m. tipoff in historical The Palestra in Philadelphia.
