Battle Of First and Second Place Teams, Davidson Hosts UTC on Monday

DAVIDSON, N.C. — After taking out second-place Samford on Saturday, the Davidson women's basketball team welcomes a new second place team in the Southern Conference standings when Chattanooga visits John M. Belk Arena on Monday evening.

The Opening Tip
The red-hot Wildcats (8-7, 6-1 SoCon), winners of their past six in a row and perfect for the month of Januaray, close out their three-game homestand on Monday night, hosting the Chattanooga Mocs (11-6, 6-2 SoCon) at 7 p.m. as they seek to keep hold of first place in the SoCon standings.

The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
The series is 25-8 in favor of Chattanooga, but last time out Davidson halted it's 20-game losing streaking with a thrilling 89-80 overtime win at home.

Scouting the Wildcats
•The Wildcats scored yet another win on Saturday, this one in dramatic fashion as Ashley Lax drained a three-pointer with 2.4 seconds left in overtime to take home a 78-77 win vs. Samford.
•The win kept Davidson perfect in the new calendar year at 4-0, matching the 1997-98 team with best start in school history in January.
•Lax netted 13 points, with 12 of them coming from behind the arc, including her 100th career three-pointer on the final game-winning shot.
•The overtime win was the Wildcats' third in their last four extra period affairs over two seasons.
•The 'Cats have won eight of their last nine games overall, including their last six straight, to go over .500 for the first time this year. They have also won five in a row at home.
•Davidson's 6-1 start in league play ties the second-best in program history with the 2006-07 squad, and next to last year's 7-0 start.
•Davidson put four of its five starters in double figures for the third straight game, led by the Alex Thompson's third 20-point game of the season as she finished with 22. She is averaging close to 16 points the last six games on 50 percent shooting ( 55.2 percent from three-land).
Kristen Johnsen netted a career-best 17 points in her third start of the season. The sophomore is averaging 9.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg during the 'Cats winng streak.
•Also scoring in double figures was Julia Paquette with 11 points and she enters Monday's game leading the SoCon with a 56.8 field goal percentage. She is also seventh in the league in rebounding (7.1 rpg).
Sophia Aleksandravicius, a double-double machine lately, has registered four of her six double doubles on the season in the last five games. She is averaging a double-double vs. league foes (16.6 ppg / 10.7 rpg) and at home (16.3 ppg / 11.5 rpg).
•During the Wildcats' six-game win streak, they are averaging 75 ppg (four players  are averaging in double figures), while shooting 43.6 percent from the field (39.6 from behind the arc).
•Davidson is wrapping up its fifth game in a 10-day stretch. In addition, starting back on Dec. 7 and then finishing Jan. 11, it has played seven of its eight games during that stretch at home.
•Davidson is 5-1 at home this year (3-1 vs. SoCon) and 31-10 overall in the last four seasons.
•Coach Watts (ninth season) is the program's all-time winningest coach with a 138-113 record. She is also closing in on 100-SoCon wins for her career, sitting at 96-61.
•Last year saw Davidson snap it's 20-game losing streak to UTC with a thrilling 89-80 overtime win at Belk Arena behind six double-figure scorers, including Monica Laune's career-best 20.

Scouting the Mocs
•Chattanooga earned a comeback win at Appalachian State on Saturday as Kayla Christopher hit back-to-back three-pointers to spark a 17-2 run to close out the game.
•The Mocs took over second place with the win in the SoCon standings. They have won the regular season title 10 straight years.
•Since starting the year 2-5, the Mocs are 9-1 with wins in their last six games.
•Shanara Hollinquest and Jenaya Wade-Fray pace the Moc offense with 18.6 and 13.1 point per game averages, good for first and seventh in the league, respectively.
Hollinquest, the reigning Player of the Year and the Player of the Month for December this year, is also first in the SoCon in rebounds (8.9) and made field goals (109), and fifth in field goal percentage (.527).
•The senior last year had games of 20 and 35 points vs. the 'Cats.
•Chattanooga is third in the league in scoring at 65.9 ppg and first in rebounding at 42.0 rpg.
•The Mocs return eight of its 12 letterwinners, including three of five starters, from last year's 22-10 team (17-3 in the league).
•UTC is 4-4 in road games this year (2-2 vs. SoCon).
•Chattanooga' non-conference schedule (5-4) has included teams like Georgia, Kentucky, Villanova, Clemson and Richmond.
•League wins this year for the Mocs have come against Furman (69-56), Wofford (89-71), UNC Greensboro (67-54), College of Charleston (64-53) and Appalachian State.
