DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson nearly erased a seven-point deficit in the last three minutes, but Chattanooga sealed the win with three free throws in the final 24 seconds to earn a 64-62 win and snap the Wildcats' six-game winning streak on Monday evening in women's Southern Conference basketball action at John M. Belk Arena.

Winners of eight of their last nine games coming into the contest, including six straight and five in a row at home, the Wildcats saw it all come to an end in falling to 8-8 overall and 6-2 in the league. Chattanooga pushed its win streak to seven in row as the Mocs took over first place with a 7-2 record and 12-6 overall mark.

Trailing 59-52 after two Shanara Hollinquest free throws with 3:05 remaining, the Wildcats mounted one last charge. Ashley Lax (Little Rock, Ark.) started the rally with a three-pointer, one of four on the evening for the junior, and then after a Chattanooga turnover, senior Alex Thompson (Asheville, N.C.) hit the front-end of two free throws to bring the 'Cats to within three at 59-56.

Hollinquest answered for the Mocs on the next possession with a layup, but Lax answered right back with two free throws for a 61-58 score and 1:20 left in regulation.

Davidson then forced another Moc turnover and quickly called a timeout, its last one.

Out of the timeout, the Wildcats missed a short jumper, but Kristen Johnsen (Wayne, Pa.) hauled in the offensive rebound. She kicked it out to Thompson, who just missed a three-ball to tie the game, but again, Davidson hustled and hauled in another offensive board with 40 seconds. After passing the ball around the arc, Chloe Woodington (Honolulu, Hawaii) got an open look from the left corner and fired away, only to see the ball hit the back of the rim and fall off to Jenaya Wade-Fray.

Wade-Fray was quickly fouled and canned both free throws with 24 seconds.

After a jumper in the paint by Sophia Aleksandravicius (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) with nine seconds, Davidson fouled again and Kayla Christopher converted on 1-of-2 free throws to seal the win.

Barbara Sitton (Richmond, Va.) made it a two-point game when she drove down the court for the final bucket as time expired for the 64-62 score.

Sitton had strong game off the bench for the Wildcats, hauling in a career-best 10 boards, while scoring eight points and dishing out a game-high seven assists.

The Wildcats were led in the scoring column by Lax with 17 points, while Thompson reached double digits for the seventh straight game with 13 points.

Hollinquest paced three Mocs in double figures with 15 points, four below her season average, and added 11 rebounds for a double-double. Christopher had 12 points and Michelle Davis netted 11 off the bench for the other three Mocs in double figures.

Davidson had trailed by as many as 15 points midway through the second half before going on a 13-3 run to bring itself within five at 57-52. Julia Paquette (Stockbridge, Ga.) and Johnsen teamed for nine of the 13 points in the run.

Falling behind 17-4 at the start of the game after hitting just 2-of-14 shots, the Wildcats regrouped and got the score to within five, 21-16, on a 12-4 run with Thompson starting and finishing the rally with bookend three-balls.

Later, Chattanooga pushed the lead back out to double digits (30-16) after a Wade-Fray shot from downtown, one of six the Mocs hit in the first half, but Sitton go the Wildcats to within six at halftime, 32-26, in the last minute and half with two buckets of her own, and then assisted on a Paquette layup as time expired.

Davidson takes to the road for it next three games, first playing at College of Charleston on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m.
