DAVIDSON, N.C. — Wildcat standout Lindsey Martin has been recognized as an Honorable Mention Scholar All-American, and the Davidson Wildcats women's swimming team has again been named a Scholar All-American team by the College Swim Coaches Association of America for the 2008-09 academic year.
The Wildcat women qualified again with a team GPA?of 3.21, up from 3.15 last season. In all, 347 teams representing 238 colleges and universities earned the distinction based on a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, and 109 Division I women's swimming and diving programs were recognized.
“An ascendant GPA is evidence of good decision making on the part of our women,” Davidson head coach John Young said. “Our vision for the program is to strive for higher and higher levels of success throughout the Davidson experience. This recognition, combined with the record-setting performances our women put forth in competition, makes me swell with pride at the balance these young women are attaining.”
Individually, Martin was one of 127 Division I women to earn the designation, bestowed upon athletes achieving a provisional NCAA?championship qualifying time and a GPA?greater than 3.5. Martin joins Megan Hollar '06 as the only Wildcat swimmer to earn the distinction.
“This is a well-deserved honor for Lindsey,”?Young said. “She is a great ambassador for our program, and I am thrilled for the chance to witness her successes for two more seasons.”
To be selected Scholar All-American, swimmers must be invited to the NCAA Championship meet and achieve a GPA of 3.50 or higher. Among division one women, there were 117 first team selections.
