DAVIDSON, N.C. – Playing their second-to-last match of the regular season, the Davidson women's tennis picked up their sixth Southern Conference win of the year with a 6-1 triumph over Elon on Friday afternoon in the Knobloch indoor Tennis Center.

The Wildcats, who are playing their last five matches at home, improved to 11-10 overall and moved to 6-3 in SoCon play, fifth-best in the league.  Elon fell to 10-11 overall and 4-5 in league action.

For the second match in a row, Davidson captured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 2. The duo of Michele Fanney and Virginia Berry tallied their second win in a row with an 8-6 win over Elon's Anna Milian and Paige Kensrue.

Sealing the point was Romina Clemente and Alison Rauh with an 8-3 win at the No. 2 spot.

Davidson proceeded to take five of the six singles wins to secure the five-point victory. Fanney and Berry continued their winning ways in singles action with their third and eighth wins in a row, respectively. Fanney took home a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Milian, while Berry registered a 6-4, 6-0 win over Kensrue. Berry is now a team-best 16-5, one off her career-high in singles wins.

Ali Gores and Molly McDevitt each picked up their third straight wins, and 10th each on the season, with wins at No. 4 and 5. Gores was forced to a third-set super tie breaker after dropping a 6-4 second set decision to Lauren Sessoms. The junior then scored a 10-6 win in the tie breaker.

McDevitt won in impressive fashion, tallying a shutout (6-0, 6-0) win over Laura Graybill at No. 5.

Finishing the Wildcats' outstanding afternoon was senior Lora Dushanova, who made her 2009 debut. Working her way back from an injury, Dushanova showed no effects from her long layoff, allowing Hayley Wahl to score  just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6. The win was Dushanova's 42nd in her Wildcat career.

The Wildcats wrap up their regular season with a 1 p.m. home match on Saturday, Apr. 18 against Furman.
