CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Davidson men's tennis team got singles wins from its No. 3-6 players and finished up their weekend road trip in opening up Southern Conference play by taking home a 5-2 victory over host Chattanooga on Tuesday afternoon.

Davidson, which fell 4-3 on Sunday at Samford in its SoCon opener, evened its league mark at 1-1 and bumped its overall record to 4-6. Chattanooga fell to 0-1 in SoCon matches and 1-6 overall.

The Wildcats' singles play, led by junior David Warren (Hilton Head, S.C.), helped them prevail for the second time in the past three matches against the Mocs.

Playing in first singles match of the season, and only the second of his Wildcat career, Warren tallied an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 6 spot. Earlier in the match, the junior had teamed up with sophomore Carter Braxton (Charlotte, N.C.) at the No. 3 doubles position and the duo registered their first win together by the count of 8-2 over Dakota Pate and Gordon Rudell.

Davidson took the doubles point to open the match, with Calum Gee (Ayr, Scotland) and Scott Myers (West Palm Beach, Fla.) earning the second win in doubles play.?It's the third time this year the Wildcats have earned the doubles points.

Gee's and Myers' day of winning was not done there as the duo brought home the Wildcats' third and fourth points of the afternoon with singles wins at No. 3 and 4. The duo even their individual singles record to 5-5, best of the team, when Gee swept past R. van de Bovenkamp, 6-2, 6-3, and Myers earned a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Alex Butnarcuic at No. 3.

Picking up the Wildcats' fifth point was Arie Hefter (Birmingham, Ala.), who improved to 3-5 at the No. 5 singles position on the year, with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory over Pate.

Davidson nearly swept the singles positions with Walker Lyons (Wallingford, Pa.) and Eric Noble (Fayetteville, N.C.) each forcing third-set super tiebreakers. The duo had dropped 6-4 decisions in their first sets, but came back with two 7-5 wins in the second sets.

The tiebreakers went the way of Chattanooga though, as Peter Sauska and Pavel Vostrikov scored the Mocs two points on the afternoon with 10-6 and 10-4 wins in the tiebeakers. Noble's defeat saw his team-best three-match winning streak come to an end.

The Wildcats return home now for a non-conference tilt against Indiana State, Mar. 12, at 2:30.
