Noble and Lyons Pace Davidson to 4-0 Blanking of Indiana State

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Junior Eric Noble (Fayetteville, N.C.) and sophomore Walker Lyons (Wallingford, Pa.) teamed up to win their doubles match and then each scored singles wins at their respective positions in leading the Davidson men's tennis team to a 4-0 win over visiting Indiana State on Thursday afternoon at the Knobloch Tennis Center.
 
Davidson rebounded from a 4-3 defeat on Monday to St. Louis to score its fifth win of the season in improving to 5-7 overall. Indiana State remains winless, sitting at 0-8 for the 2009 campaign.

Noble and Lyons, teaming up for the fourth time this year at the No. 1 doubles spot, halting their two-match losing streak by scoring an 8-4 decision over Jon Sigurdsson and Josh Smith. Davidson would go on to capture the No. 2 position to earn the doubles point to start the match.

The duo then earned the Wildcats' second and third points in singles play with wins at No. 1 and 2 in singles play. Noble cruised to his sixth win of the season, and fourth in the last six matches, with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mpiloenhle Migogo.

Lyons started slow, dropping a 6-3 decision in his first set, but regrouped to even things up with a 6-3 win of his own to force a third set against Smith. The sophomore then pushed on, earning a 6-2 decision in the third set to score his fourth singles win of the year, and first at the No. 2 singles spot.

Freshman Calum Gee (Ayr, Scotland) sealed the win by taking a 6-2, 6-4 win over Milos Pavlovic at No. 4. He sits at a team-best 7-5 this year in singles play.

Earlier, Gee teamed up with senior Scott Myers (West Palm Beach, Fla.) at the No. 2 doubles position to earn a thrilling 9-8 tie-breaker win. The duo have a team-high three doubles wins together.

Davidson takes the weekend off, before heading to Greenville, S.C. to play SoCon-foe Furman, Mar. 21 at 1:30 p.m. The 'Cats sit at 1-1 in league matches.
