GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team dropped its second league match of the year when the Furman Paladins took a 7-0 home decision over the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center in Southern Conference play.
Davidson fell to 1-2 in the league and 5-8 overall, while Furman improved to 2-0 in SoCon play and 11-7 overall.
The Paladins took all three doubles matches on their way to capturing the doubles point, and then swept through the singles play in straight sets for the 7-0 win. It was the Paladins' fourth win in a row, and third shutout win of the season.
Three Wildcats saw their winning streaks halted in singles play. The duo of Eric Noble (Fayetteville, N.C.) and Scott Myers (West Palm Beach, Fla.) each saw their two-match win streaks come to an end with defeats to No. 121 Andy Juc and Daniel Knause at No. 1 and 3.
Freshman Calum Gee (Ayr, Scotland), carrying a season team-best four-match win streak into play against Furman, had his streak broken when he dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Chris Motes at No. 4.
Davidson comes back home for a non-conference match against visiting University of Illinois at Chicago on Monday, Mar. 23 at 2 p.m.
