DAVIDSON, N.C. — Returning to conference play after a non-conference match on Monday, the Davidson men's tennis team was not able to come up with their second Southern Conference win as they fell 5-2 to the UNC Greensboro Spartans on Saturday afternoon at the Knobloch Indoor Tennis Center.

Davidson dropped its third straight match to fall to 5-10 on the season and 1-3 in SoCon matches. UNCG ran its overall mark to 9-4 and remained undefeated in league play at 4-0.

The match started off with the Wildcats' No. 1 and 2 doubles teams splitting their matches with the Spartans. The duo of Scott Myers (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Calum Gee (Ayr, Scotland) tallied their fifth doubles win with an 8-6 triumph over Kyle Eddins and William John at No. 2. The Spartans sealed the doubles point then with an 8-1 win at the No. 3 spot.

Myers tried to get the 'Cats back in the match with a come-from-behind win at No. 3, but UNCG took singles wins at the No. 1, 2, 4 and 5 spots to close out the match. Myers dropped his first set 6-3, but came back to take a 7-6 tie-breaker win in the second set. He then scored a 1-0 win in the third set after Arsel Kumderell was forced to retire.

Myers is tied with Gee for the most wins on the team in singles play at seven. The senior evened his SoCon mark at 2-2.

Arie Hefter (Birmingham, Ala.) netted the Wildcats' second point of the match by halting his personal three-match losing streak at No. 6. He battled Jacob Wright in the first two sets with the scores going 7-5 in favor of Hefter and a 7-6 second set decision to Wright. Hefter picked up his fourth dual singles win of the season with a 10-6 super tie-breaker win in the third set.

Davidson next takes on Elon in another Southern Conference match on Apr. 1 at 3 p.m. on its home courts.
