
Davidson M. Tennis Falls 7-0 to No. 66 Elon

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Playing its third ranked opponent of the season, the Davidson men's tennis team was defeated by No. 66 Elon by the count of 7-0 in a Southern Conference match on Wednesday afternoon in the Knobloch Indoor Tennis Center.
Davidson dropped its fourth straight, falling to 5-11 overall and 1-4 in league matches, while Elon ran its overall mark to 15-4 and its SoCon record to a perfect 6-0. The win is Elon's 12th in a row and 14th in the last 15 matches.
The Phoenix opened up the match by taking all three doubles positions to grab a quick 1-0 advantage. Elon then captured all six of the singles spots for the 7-0 win.
The 'Cats No. 1 singles player, Eric Noble, did his best to hang with the nationally-ranked Damon Gooch, before falling 6-4, 6-2. Gooch came into the match ranked 69th.
Also playing some solid singles action on the afternoon despite losing was Scott Myers at No. 3 and Arie Hefter at No. 5. Myers, who saw his two-match winning streak snapped, scored four games each in his two sets vs. Philip Nemec (4-6, 4-6), while Hefter netted a total of seven games against Alberto Rojas (3-6, 4-6).
Davidson takes to the road this weekend for two SoCon matches at College of Charleston, Apr. 4, and Georgia Southern, Apr. 5. Its match against CofC is set for 1 p.m., while it will battle the Eagles at 12 p.m.
