JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Playing the first of two straight matches in Florida during their spring break, the?Davidson women's tennis team was swept by the North Florida Ospreys, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match.
Davidson dropped to an even 4-4 on the season, while North Florida improved to 5-2. It was the Ospreys first win in the all-time series.
The two schools were rained out last year and nearly were again this year. The match was pushed back from its original start time of 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to avoid the early morning rain showers.
North Florida captured all three doubles matches to take a quick 1-0 lead. The Wildcats No. 1 and 3 doubles teams gave the Ospreys' counter a challenge, but came up short as both teams dropped 8-5 decisions.
In singles play, Ali Gores came the closest to netting the Wildcats lone point, taking Ina Durcakova to a third-set tie breaker which she dropped 10-5. Gores and Durcakova had split their first two sets by the same score of 6-4.
The Wildcats will next play Jacksonville on Monday, Mar. 2 with match time set for 2 p.m.
