Wildcats Battle Spartans in SoCon Matchup on Monday Evening

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Returning home for the first time since Jan. 24, the Davidson women's basketball team will play host to UNC Greensboro in a Southern Conference contest on Monday evening at John M. Belk Arena.
The Opening Tip
The Wildcats (9-14, 8-6 SoCon) look to pick up their second season-series sweep when they play the Spartans (8-15, 5-9 SoCon) on Monday evening at 7 p.m. as it will be the start of three straight final home contests for the 'Cats. Davidson's first season-series sweep came against Elon.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
The series is 26-11 in favor of UNC Greensboro, but the Wildcats have won the last three contests and are 4-1 in the past five meetings.
They will be looking for their second straight season-series sweep after taking both meetings against UNCG last year.
Earlier this year, (Jan. 5) the Wildcats took a 61-55 overtime decision on the road. Mercedes Robinson netted 17 points and hauled in a career-best 17 rebounds in the win.
Scouting the Wildcats
•Davidson returned to its winning ways behind the strong play of its senior, Mercedes Robinson after taking a 79-65 decision at Elon on Saturday.
•The win snapped the Wildcats six-game skid, the program's longest losing since dropping six straight near the end of the 2001-02 season.
•Robinson, fresh off becoming the 12th Wildcat in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau at Wofford, Jan. 31, went off for game highs of 28 points and 12 rebounds at Elon.
•The senior scored 10 of her 16 second-half points in a decisive seven-minute stretch in the second half that opened up a 62-47 Wildcat lead after the Phoenix had closed to six points, 40-34.
•Robinson has 13 double-doubles on the year, one off her career-high 14 from a season ago. She also has 30 for her career, and has hit the 20-point mark four times this year.
•Alex Thompson and Ashley Lax both hit the double-digit mark at Elon with 14 and 17 points, respectively. The duo rank first and third in the SoCon in made three-pointers with 52 and 49.
•As of Feb. 5, Thompson (.434) and Lax (.417) are 13th and 28th in the nation in three-point percentage.
•With her 12 rebounds on Saturday, Robinson, who reach the 700-mark for her career at Elon, has led the team in rebounding now 14 straight games, going for double digits in 10 of them.
•Robinson ranks 25th in the nation in rebounds per game at 9.8.
•The senior has also scored in double figures in 11 of the past 12 games, getting nine of her 13 double-doubles on the year during that stretch.
•Lax has scored in double digits the past eight games and is averaging an even 13 points on the season.
•Monday's game will be the first of three straight final home games for the Wildcats.
•Davidson is 5-3 at home this season and has compiled a 25-7 mark the past three years at Belk Arena.
•The Wildcats had their best shooting performance at Elon (.476) since shooting 48 percent at Chattanooga back on Jan. 17.
•For the 11th time this year, Davidson held its opponent under 40 percent shooting as Elon closed the game at an even 39 percent clip.
Scouting the Spartans
•UNC Greensboro (8-15, 5-9 SoCon) last played on the 2nd of February when it upset Samford by the count of 49-37 at home. The Spartans closed the game on a 23-4 run to snap the Bulldogs' 12-game conference winning streak.
•Lakiah Hyson paced the Spartan attack with a career-high 13 points, while Monique Floyd also hit for double digits, getting 11, all of them coming in the last 8:29 of the game.
•The duo combined for just 17 points last time out vs. Davidson.
•Hyson has led the team in scoring three of the past five games. She averages 9.6 ppg on the year.
•On the season, Gini Grimsley leads UNCG with a 9.8 ppg average and is also tops on the team with a 5.8 rpg average.
•Grimsley scored just six points (3-of-15 shooting) last meeting vs. the Wildcats.
•Since their last meeting with Davidson, the Spartans have gone 2-8, including 1-3 in their last four contests.
•UNCG is 2-9 on the road this year and only 1-6 in league road games.
•The Spartans have been held to under 50 points four of the last six games.
