
W. Tennis Falls To No. 11 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Davidson women's tennis team took its second defeat to a ranked opponent when they traveled to No. 11 North Carolina and fell by the count of 7-0 on Thursday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Davidson, which dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 41 Virginia Tech, Feb. 14, saw its record to fall to an even 3-3, while UNC improved to 9-2 on the year. The Tar Heels also defeated Elon earlier in the day.
UNC opened the match by sweeping the doubles point. From there, the Wildcats battled hard in singles play, but fell short in all six matches to fall by the count of 7-0.
Virginia Berry nearly forced a third set by taking Austin Smith to a tie breaker in the second set. Smith came in ranked 103rd in the nation. Berry was up by the count of 5-2 before Smith rallied for the tie breaker win.
The Wildcats take an eight-day break before hosting East Carolina on Feb. 27 at 2 p.m.
