DAVIDSON, N.C. —
Returning home after a school-record long eight-game road trip to open the year, the Davidson women's basketball team hunts for their third straight win with a matchup against Appalachian State in the Wildcats home opener on Monday evening at John M. Belk Arena.

The Opening Tip
Davidson (2-6, 2-0 SoCon) looks to avenge a 20-point defeat to the Mountaineers on its home court last season when it hosts SoCon-foe ASU (2-4, 0-1 SoCon) on Monday at 7 p.m. in its home opener.

The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
The series is 19-17 in favor of ASU after both teams split their home-and-home series last year. The Wildcats saw their five-game win streak snapped in the last meeting, but have won eight of the last 11 overall.

Scouting the Wildcats
•The Wildcats started 2-0 in league play for the fourth straight season after scoring a 62-51 road win on Saturday vs. Western Carolina.
•The duo of Alex Thompson and Ashley Lax each hit the double-figure mark in points with 19 and 16, respectively. Thompson had 12 of her game-high 19 in the first half when Davidson took the lead for good at 14-11 with 9:27 on the clock.
•Lax hit three of the 'Cats four three-pointers for the game and paces the team with 14. She has scored in double figures five of the past six games.
•Thompson is averaging a team-best 14.0 ppg (4th-best in SoCon) and 20.5 in two SoCon games.
•She has scored in double figures in eight of the last 10 games dating back to last year.
Julia Paquette (7.4 rpg) had her third career double-digit rebounding game with 10 on Saturday.
•Last season saw Davidson get off a school-best 7-0 start in conference action.
•The 'Cats are seeking their seventh win in home openers (6-2) under head coach Annette Watts.
•They have won their last three, scoring wins over Emory, Georgia Southern and Furman.
•With its win to start December on Saturday, Davidson has now won its last four straight contests when opening the month of December.
•The 'Cats were picked to finish fourth in the SoCon coaches preseason poll with the return of seven letterwinners (three starters) from last year.
•Coach Watts (ninth season) is the program's all-time winningest coach with a 132-112 record.
•This will be the Wildcats' 37th meeting with ASU in the all-time series.
•They trail 19-17 after last year's two-game split, but have taking wins in eight of the last 11 meetings, including five of the past six games.
•Last time out (1/24/09), Davidson put three players in double figures vs. ASU at home, but were held to 31 percent shooting and lost the ball 25 times in dropping a 20-point decision. The defeat was the largest for the Wildcats in the all-time series, and it was on the heels of the largest win in the series for Davidson, a 95-75 victory, in the first meeting last year (12/6/08).

Scouting the Mountaineers
•Appalachian State last played on Wednesday, opening SoCon play vs. Georgia Southern and fell by the score of 73-68. A season ago they were 7-13 in the league.
•Three players hit the double-figure mark in points led by Sam Ramirez and Ashlen Dewart's 14 points each vs. the Eagles. Dewart had her second straight double-double, adding 10 boards.
•Last time out vs. Davidson, a 77-57 victory on the road, Ramirez dropped in eight points to go along with three rebounds and five assists.
•The point guard leads the team with a 13.0 ppg average and has drained a team-high 14 treys.
•Last time vs. the Wildcats, the Mountaineers forced 25 turnovers, resulting in 31 points off of those Wildcat miscues. The Mountaineers also finished the game shooting 54.7 percent on the offensive end, including 42.9 percent from three-land.
•ASU returns eight of its 11 letterwinners from last year's 9-22 squad, the first under Darcie Vincent.
•ASU's two wins this year have come against Marshall (63-58) and Miami (Ohio) (79-76).
•App. State ranks first in field goal defense (.345) and total rebounds per game (44.7)
•ASU is 4th in the league in scoring average at 63.5 ppg, while hitting 34.5 percent of its field goals.
