Castle Named CCSA Swimmer of the Week

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- After helping the Davidson Wildcat women to a dual meet win over CCSA-foe College of Charleston this weekend, junior Emily Castle has been named CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week, for meets competed Oct. 26-Nov. 1, as announced by the league office.
Castle won two individual titles and swam on a winning relay as the Wildcats competed against William & Mary and Charleston over the weekend.
She kicked off her weekend with a win in the 200 fly against William & Mary Friday night at Cannon Natatorium, finishing first with a time of 2:08.13, just seconds off the Davidson record. She also swam on the Wildcats' runner-up 400 medley and 200 freestyle relays against The Tribe.
Castle picked up another individual title and a relay victory at the College of Charleston Saturday. She finished first in the 50 free with a time of 27.74 and swam leadoff on the winning 400 freestyle relay. Along with Lauren Kamperman, Anna Stringfield and Jean DeOrnellas, the Wildcat women finished with a time of 4:28.74.
The College of Charleston's Randy Buchanan was named CCSA Men's Swimmer of the Week, while College of Charleston's Peter Gibbons and Florida Gulf Coast's Karmin McNamara were named the CCSA's Men's and Women's Diver of the Week, respectively.
Buchanan earned a pair of top individual finishes as the Cougars earned a dual-meet victory over CCSA opponent Davidson last Saturday, winning the 100 free and the 200 IM. He also swam the breaststroke leg of the winning 400 medley relay.
Against the Wildcats, Gibbons won the 1-meter dive (202.28 points) and placed second on the 3-meter dive (176.85). Gibbons did all this while diving with five stitches in his leg.
McNamara won both diving events, finishing first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 243.52, and the 3-meter dive with a score of 260.17, as the Eagles defeated Florida Atlantic and the University of Tampa.
Also nominated for men's Swimmer of the Week: Drew Onken (Davidson), Jules Graham (Howard), and Will Rowcliffe (VMI). Also nominated for men's Diver of the Week: Jeff Jankowski (College of Charleston). Also nominated for women's Swimmer of the Week: Jackie Kenline (Campbell), Line Lauridsen (Florida Gulf Coast) and Emily Turner (Radford). Also nominated for women's Diver of the Week: Linnea Buttermore (Davidson) and Katie Shaffer (Radford).
The Wildcats return to action when they host NC State at noon on Saturday.
